Anti Monte Haul

One way is to bleed off some of their excess power and hardware in various interesting ways. I'm not out to kill players, but when it does happen, resurrection COSTS. To find someone able to do it, and persuade him and his god, usually requires his friends to go on an expensive quest or two, with no other reward than the resurrection. The dead PC comes back naked and having lost a few levels.

Other things can happen to monte haul hardware. It gets crocked, it gets stolen. The players can have the fun of finding new stuff without getting overloaded, because old stuff they don't use (or they bore everyone with using too much), tends to wear out or disappear or become a target for theft or revenge.

Well, that's kind of harsh, trapping poor over-powered player characters i n your dungeon and selling them into slavery at WoW.

Doesn't Tappercoom have a monopoly on that anyway?

Plan B: hire a well known thief name of Tonio, quite willing to pick pockets and perform back alley deals with the Multiversal Trading Company, all the while acting as a sweet guide and helpmeet to the poor hapless party that cannot seem to keep up with those magic items/funds/fancy supplies, etc, past a certain point. Hee hee hee

Or let them find Twyla's bag of holding that she had specially made, that teleports one in every 12 magic items to her lair.

Funny how many munchkins don't miss item 12 till several dungeons later.
